BERRY was founded by 3 passionate people who wanted to create a better society through world-class strawberries. In partnership with the Oneness Foundation, BERRY provides job opportunities for individuals in recovery from disabilities, mental health issues, addiction and other hardships. By combining agriculture and social welfare, BERRY has become a merciful home where underprivileged individuals reconnect with society and improve their wellbeing by cultivating the world's best strawberries.
Most strawberries are harvested just before they're fully ripe to reduce damage during transportation. However, BERRY's strawberries are harvested after they're fully ripe. That's because the longer the strawberry stays on the runner, the more sweeter the strawberries get. Where BERRY is located in Iga City, Mie Prefecture, it's extremely cold in the winter with very little sunshine. This harsh climate is unsuitable for mass production, but it's perfect for dedicated farmers who are willing to go the extra mile. The farmers painstakingly monitor each strawberry and adjust the leaves by hand to ensure they're getting the exact amount of sunlight.
Every strawberry is inspected by BERRY's professional strawberry artisans. This is an essential part of the process as a scratch the size of a needle's edge could cause the strawberries to mold before they reach their destination. This strict selection process requires every strawberry to be judged by the keenest human eyes.
BERRY joined forces with Cultivera, an agricultural venture company to establish "The Good Green Farm". This organization focuses on research and development for new sustainable cultivation methods. Their most recent innovation called "Moisculture" is a humidity-based farming method which will drastically reduce the amount of water needed for cultivation. This technology also promotes the growth of moisture-absorbing roots which allows the strawberries to withstand harsh environmental conditions.
