Chocolate Persimmon, known in Japan as Goma Hatchin-gaki, is grown by BIG BRIDGE FARM in Niigata Prefecture. Beneath its orange skin, the flesh reveals fine brown speckles that give this fresh Japanese fruit its distinctive appearance.

Why is it called Chocolate Persimmon?

The name refers to the chocolate-brown, sesame-like speckles in the flesh rather than a chocolate coating. The Japanese word goma means sesame, describing the pattern inside the fruit.

Sweetness and texture

Goma Hatchin-gaki offers a rich sweetness, with flesh that becomes softer as the fruit ripens. The amount and pattern of speckling vary naturally from one persimmon to another.

From BIG BRIDGE FARM in Niigata

The farm grows persimmons in Nishikan Ward, Niigata City, carrying out seasonal orchard care and preparing the fruit for shipment after harvest.

How to enjoy

Slice and serve to reveal the patterned flesh. Enjoy the fruit firmer for a more defined bite, or let it soften for a smoother texture. Check the current delivery schedule before ordering; estimated arrival dates depend on the harvest.
