In order to receive the official crown seal of approval, each one-of-a-kind specimen must pass strict standards of sugar content, flavor, ripeness and appearance. This level of quality can only be achieved by a handful of experienced farmers who have mastered their craft. For those who have tasted it, the Crown Melon is not just a fruit — it's a work of art.

For the best taste experience:
A Crown Melon is ready to eat when the bottom is slightly soft (try pushing with your finger to judge this). Note that melons start ripening as soon as they are harvested. We recommend consuming the melon within 2-3 days of delivery. Until the day you consume the melon, store it at room temperature and refrigerate your melon 2-3 hours before consuming.

About Shizuoka Crown Melon

Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan

Over 100 years of history.

The first Crown Melon was cultivated in Fukuroi City, Shizuoka in 1921. This legendary melon originated from a unique cultivar called “Earl’s Favorite” imported from the UK. While other brands have been selectively bred, the Crown Melon has been cultivated purely from the Earl’s Favorite seed for over a century. The farmers of Fukuroi kept improving the cultivation methods with constant trial and error. Their long history of dedication and craftsmanship is what led to the exceptional quality of the Crown Melon today.

Climate blessed by nature.

Crown Melons are only cultivated in the western region of Shizuoka Prefecture called Enshu. This region has a mild climate that gets long days full of of sunlight which feels tailor-made to grow these fruits successfully. Along with Crown Melons, tea and rice from this region are also highly prized due to their exquisite growing conditions that reveal the full potential of their flavors.
